Snow & Ice Control
Adams County’s Snow & Ice Control Program is a vital seasonal operation that takes priority over all other Public Works activities during winter storms to keep roads safe and passable.
This is one of the most resource-intensive programs the department manages in terms of safety, cost, and labor. It includes pre- and post-storm applications of liquid deicer, as well as plowing and the use of solid deicer and anti-skid materials during storms.

To ensure efficient snow removal, roads are assigned to four priority levels based on their classification, importance for emergency access, and traffic volume. For snowfalls over eight inches, all routes, including residential areas, will be served. View the priority map below to find designated routes. | Roadway Priority | Description |
| Emergency & Essential Routes | These main roads, usually on a one-mile grid, connect to essential services like medical centers, fire stations, and schools. They are cleared first in all snow events, with school routes prioritized before school start and end times. Mapped in red. |
| Neighborhood Connectors | These are key connector roads from neighborhoods to major routes. Cleared second in snow events, after Priority 1 roads, but may be plowed simultaneously when resources allow. Mapped in orange. |
| Known Icing Areas | These roads include specific areas with known icing risks, not already designated as a higher priority road, like hills or intersections. They are cleared third after the Emergency & Essential Routes and Neighborhood Connector roads are addressed. Mapped in blue. |
| Residential Streets | These local residential streets are plowed if snow accumulates to 8 inches or more. Mapped in green. |
