Adams County Head Start Curriculum and Assessment
Adams County Head Start uses only research-based, proven-effective curriculum components in its classrooms. Core programs include Creative Curriculum, Dinosaur School, Zoo-phonics, and Kids Play Math.
- Creative Curriculum guides learning through thematic study units, using quality children’s books, teacher-led activities, child-directed exploration, and purposeful play.
- Dinosaur School promotes social-emotional development through puppets, role play, videos, small groups, and class discussions.
- Zoo-phonics teaches letter names and sounds using music, movement, and engaging activities to build foundational literacy skills.
- Kids Play Math provides interactive games, routines, and activities throughout the year to strengthen early math skills.
To monitor progress, teachers use Teaching Strategies GOLD to assess development in language, literacy, cognition, social-emotional skills, mathematics, and physical growth. Assessment results guide individualized instruction and are shared with parents multiple times per year. Together, teachers and families set goals to ensure each child is on track for Kindergarten readiness.
