An electric vehicle is powered entirely or partially by electricity, using one or more electric motors instead of an internal combustion engine.

There are two types of electric vehicles:
- Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): These run solely on electricity and have no gasoline engine.
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs): These have both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, allowing for electric-only driving over short distances and gasoline use for longer trips.
