A Seat at the Table: Why Your Voice Matters in Adams County

June 26th, 2025

By Commissioner Julie Duran Mullica, Vice Chair, Adams County Board of Commissioners

Want to make a difference in your community? Now is your chance!

Adams County is currently accepting applications for openings on our 28 Citizen Advisory Boards and Commissions, and I can’t emphasize enough how important these roles are to our county’s success.

These boards are made up of residents—people just like you—who lend their time, talents, and lived experience to help guide the county’s work on everything from planning and zoning to open space, from affordable housing to public health, veterans’ services, to libraries, and so much more. Their input helps shape policy, strengthen programs, and ensure that decisions reflect the diverse voices of our community.

Throughout my time in public service, and even before, I have served on many different advisory boards, commissions, and committees, and those experiences hold a special place in my career and in my heart. They not only gave me a deeper understanding of how local government—and the community about which I deeply care—works, but they also helped me build relationships with neighbors and leaders who were passionate about making a difference.

Now, as Vice Chair of the Board of Commissioners, I continue to be grateful for the invaluable insight and dedication our citizen boards bring to the table. These volunteers are trusted partners in the county’s decision-making process, and their voices matter.

If you care about this community—and I know you do—I encourage you to find a board that speaks to your passions and apply. Whether you’re interested in cultural programming, economic development, fire and building codes, or simply giving back in a meaningful way, there’s a place for you.

Time is running out to apply for this round of vacancies—applications close on July 3, and interviews will be held later in the month. You can explore all 28 boards and apply online.

Adams County’s government is here to serve you, so you should have a seat at the table. There’s a chair waiting for you!
