South Platte Whitewater Improvements
Project Overview
In 2019, the Adams County Parks, Open Space & Cultural Arts department and the Mile High Flood District identified an area of the South Platte River adjacent to Riverdale Regional Park needing to undergo improvements. Amid these discussions, the Parks, Open Space & Cultural Arts department recognized an opportunity to address a lack of water recreation access within Adams County.
The proposed improvements to the South Platte River and addition of water recreation would create opportunities for river access, trails, and rapids.
Community Engagement
The Adams County Parks, Open Space & Cultural Arts department, in partnership with the Mile High Flood District, engaged the GLO Ambassadors to conduct community outreach surrounding the South Platte Whitewater Improvements. The GLO Ambassadors are a group of local students who have surveyed park users, residents of Adams County, and outdoor recreationalists in an effort to gather input from the community about the project.
